Compare the size of St. George Reef Lighthouse with Spectacle Reef Light on page 25 and Stannard Rock Light on page 30. Why did these lighthouses need such large, solid bases?

What order lantern does this lighthouse have? Is it as large as Cape Hatteras on the cover? Do you see the small fog horn on the deck to the left? Why would it point in two directions?

This 1898 report indicates a particularly foggy August at St. George Reef.  Using the grand total of hours of fog, determine what the average number of hours of fog per day was that month. What times of day was fog most likely to descend?
